Memories...Smile!!

Costs

Each of your Mini-Vacays will vary in the cost of their total package. Still, remember that the goal is to stay under $100.  Don't think it's possible?  Take a hint from me...

Create Your Best Estimate
Once you've decided where you're going and what you're doing, calculate the gas, activity, and food.  Gas can be calculated using Mapquest, and the food can be determined by looking at the restaurant's website (if they don't have one- give them a phone call!).  As for the cost of your activity, it should be listed on the business website.

Here's an example: Tulip Festival

Costs:
Approx fuel cost $100 (your share= $20)
Tulip Town $4
Parking/Roozengaarde Tour $4 (driver only!)
Roozengaarde Tour $4
Food (unless you bring snack) $10
Nic Nacs and Must Haves $25
Approximate Total: $63.00 !!!
*Note: Determine what/who's vehicle will be used and how many miles to the gallon before logging onto Mapquest gas calculator.

Tips To Keeping It Cheap

Here's what I used for our first Mini Vacay to Forks, WA
  • Pre-calculate approximate total costs of gas, food, and souvenirs to help keep yourself on a budget!!
  • Nic Nacs and Must Haves: Do you really need that? Just remember to think of what you will enjoy once you're back to your apartment. Do what you can so that way you don't find yourself asking, "Did I really need fake vampire teeth?" This could reduce the cost of your vacation by $15!!
  • Foot traffic: Whether it's stopping several times for photo opportunities, or driving from "E" St to "G" St, you'll save gas by being frugal with the car! This could reduce cost of your vacation by $10!!
  • Food: Pack a lunch, snacks, and water bottle that way you won't have to purchase more that one meal (if that!). That could reduce the cost of your vacation by $20!!
  • Add it up!: Total potential savings: $45!! (Hey, maybe you can get the vampire teeth after all...)
